About the Gold Seal: Good Food Award winner listings describe the Gold Seal as recognition for establishments delivering food quality, service and value alongside consistently high customer ratings and votes over a three-year period.
What makes the Gold Seal different?
Many restaurant awards recognise a particular year, a judging panel or a single public vote. The Good Food Award Gold Seal takes a different view: it is intended to recognise consistency over time.
Good Food Award winner listings explain that Gold Seal recipients are selected around food quality, service and value, with the Gold Seal reserved for businesses achieving consistently high customer ratings and votes over three years. That makes the recognition especially relevant to TERRA because it reflects the everyday guest experience rather than one specific menu or event.
Consistency sits at the heart of TERRA
TERRA's menus change with the seasons, but the principles behind the restaurant remain deliberately consistent: fresh cooking, thoughtful service, strong use of Sussex produce and a dining experience that feels relaxed enough for a spontaneous meal while still working for anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions.
The restaurant sits within Tottington Manor at the foot of the South Downs National Park near Henfield, with 12 boutique bedrooms on site. Guests can therefore visit simply for lunch or dinner, combine the restaurant with an overnight stay, or book private dining and tasting experiences.
Local Sussex food and wine
TERRA works with local farmers, growers, vineyards and producers and continues to develop a strong Sussex identity across both food and drink. Seasonal menus give the kitchen flexibility to work with ingredients at their best, while the wine list includes a particularly strong selection of Sussex sparkling and still wines alongside wines from established regions around the world.
That combination of local sourcing and wider choice is part of what makes TERRA a destination restaurant rather than simply a dining room attached to a hotel.
The Gold Seal joins a growing group of independent awards
The Good Food Award Gold Seal follows a significant period of independent recognition for TERRA. In the 2025 BRAVO Awards, the restaurant was voted 2nd Best Sussex Restaurant and also won the Sustainability Champion category.
Those awards measure different things. The BRAVO Best Sussex Restaurant result reflects public voting within the county's restaurant scene; the Sustainability Champion award recognises sustainability practice; and the Good Food Award Gold Seal specifically reinforces the importance of sustained customer experience over several years.
A recognition for the whole team
A consistency-based award is inevitably about more than the food leaving the kitchen. It reflects the combined work of chefs, restaurant teams, suppliers and everyone responsible for creating the guest experience day after day.
For TERRA, the Gold Seal is therefore particularly welcome recognition of the standards the team is working to maintain while the restaurant continues to develop its menus, tasting experiences, wine programme and wider reputation.
