How Many Bedrooms Do You Need at Your Wedding Venue?

Practical wedding advice from the Tottington Manor Weddings team
Published 22 July 2026  |   Sussex Wedding Planning  |   Tottington Manor Weddings Team

Wedding accommodation is not a numbers competition. The important question is not how many bedrooms a venue has, but whether the right people can stay close enough to make the wedding calmer, safer and more enjoyable.

This article forms part of our Sussex wedding planning collection, created to help couples make confident decisions before choosing suppliers or a Sussex wedding venue with accommodation.

Start with the people who make the day work

Begin with the couple, followed by parents or guardians, the wedding party, elderly or less-mobile relatives, guests travelling the greatest distance and anyone with very young children. These are the people for whom onsite accommodation has the greatest practical value.

At Tottington Manor there are 12 boutique bedrooms, including a honeymoon suite and useful preparation spaces. That does not mean every guest can stay onsite—and nor does every guest need to. A well-planned allocation gives the people most closely involved in the day a calm base, while other guests can use carefully selected nearby accommodation.

Why more bedrooms are not automatically better

A very large bedroom commitment can increase cost, create pressure to fill rooms and spread the wedding party across a bigger property. Twelve bedrooms can create a more intimate house-party feeling, particularly when the rooms are reserved for the people who will be present from preparations through to breakfast the next morning.

Ask each venue whether rooms must be financially guaranteed, when names are required, whether guests pay directly and what happens to any unclaimed allocation.

Plan transport for everyone else

For guests staying elsewhere, publish taxi information early and consider arranged transport. Characterful options such as Bus and Bug's Volkswagen campervan and Beetle can play a role in couple or wedding-party transport, while larger guest movements may need minibuses or pre-booked taxis. The essential point is to avoid leaving transport decisions until the evening itself.

A simple room-allocation order

A sensible order is: the couple; parents or guardians; people getting ready onsite; elderly or less-mobile guests; guests with babies or young children; and those travelling furthest. Once those needs are covered, remaining rooms can be offered fairly with a clear booking deadline.

Sussex wedding suppliers mentioned in this guide

Across this series we reference trusted and experienced suppliers including Toastmaster Dan, Lumimix, Mulberry Events, John Scofield Photography, Loveheart Photography and Bus and Bug. Couples should always check current availability, pricing and suitability directly with each supplier.
